I had completely forgotten about Bill Cosby. Until I opened Twitter and saw his new mug shot circulating.
For those who don’t remember, Bill Cosby was the dad we all loved growing up. He was Heathcliff Huxtable in The Cosby Show. Growing up, we all looked up to him. He was the perfect dad to the perfect family. The family we all longed to belong to.
Then we found out who he really was. Someone who drugged woman so he could take advantage of them. Multiple woman, including the first super model Janice Dickenson, came forward with stories of how Bill Cosby slipped them drugs and raped them. Because of this, he was convicted in 2018 and sentenced to 3-10 years in prison.
Do I think that was a fair sentence. No way. He should have gotten Many more years behind bars based on the number of women he assaulted.
But now that this mugshot is making its rounds on social media, I am seeing comments from people defending Bill. “Man Free Bill. He is only in jail because he black and was about to buy CBS. Yall stay saying protect black women but black men are not protected,” wrote a fan on Instagram. “This is sad and this shouldn’t have been posted. Feel bad for him,” said a user.
I don’t understand. I know they are sad because their hero is in prison, but saying these things is like a slap to the face for the victims.
If I had it my way, he spend a whole lot longer than 10 years in prison. I guess we will have to wait and see what becomes of this.
